Any Ideas On How To Make Ammonia?
 

I am going to incorporate icyball technology into my farm. Of course it is a trifle to buy ammonia at the store but I hate to rely on systems that I can't fully maintain myself, that is a large part of the reason I moved onto a small farm in the first place. So I can work metal, I can build stuff and I can get water, but how do I get ammonia if I can't buy it at a store for whatever reason?

Right now I'll even settled for advice on what things that may commonly occur in nature or be raised by Man contain ammonia. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is cat pee. I can even theoretically see a way of using differential evaporation to seperate the ammonia from the other components but I have no idea how to gather any quantity of cat urine that wouldn't involve horribly abusing the poor animal. I'd rather explore other options anyway, just on general principle.

What else has ammonia in it? How might it be extracted? Is there any kind of backyard chemistry that might help?

I haven't been real successful on the net with this, but the colonial gunpowder was made with saltpeter, nitre, etc. The recipe for this, which extracted urine, should lead you in the right direction. If I recall, you have a passing knowledge with firesticks and may want that recipe anyway.
